As an artist, I'm interested in examining the notion of powerful women, the women with courage that continue to inspire. Eternally introspective as well, lonely and unfulfilled. Alike many exquisite immigrant women, who have struggled against barriers and contributed in creating Canadian society through their hard work and determination in the past and the present. Almost certainly, some immigrant women were the labor force at the Hosiery Mills of London, Ontario.
There is one unforeseen image in the exhibit, with which the curator wanted to include herself in the show, not as curator but as a woman in expressing her appreciation with the struggles, innovations and triumphs of our foremothers over the sexualized stereotypes of the past. And, my work is a tribute to them.
